Dear Ramah Grandparents,
As grandparents, we have the extraordinary privilege of watching Jewish identity take root across generations. Over the years, Ramah in the Rockies has played a meaningful role in shaping that identity in our grandchildren by creating something rare: a joyful Jewish community where campers are challenged to grow and Jewish life is lived with authenticity and pride. The confidence, resilience, and connection to Jewish tradition they develop will sustain them — and strengthen our broader Jewish community — for decades to come.
For the past few seasons, Ramah has been at capacity with potential campers on waiting lists. To meet this growing demand, Ramah is hoping to build four additional tents and complete an extraordinary growth phase since emerging from COVID.
Two of these new tents will become the new home for JOLI, the Jewish Outdoor Leadership Institute. The high school juniors and seniors in the program develop Jewish leadership skills through experiential education and a counselor-in-training experience.
In 2016, the camp dedicated the first Grandparents’ Tent, which bears a permanent sign with the names of grandparents and the grandchildren they chose to honor. Those campers are now in their late 20s, but their names and their grandparents’ names live on each summer in the lives of the hundreds of campers who have called that tent their summer home.
Our hope is to name the two new JOLI tents the Grandparents’ Tent, with the names of a new generation of campers. Each tent will be funded collectively, with a goal of raising $54,000 per tent. The minimum commitment to be included on the plaque is $5,400 (as a one-time gift or paid over three years), though gifts of any amount are truly appreciated.
We are honored to be among the first to support this effort, and we invite you to join us in adding your name to one of our Grandparents’ Tents in honor of your grandchildren and in support of the generations who will follow. It is humbling to consider that one day even our great-grandchildren may sleep in these tents, carrying forward the strength, pride, and joy of Jewish life nurtured here. That is a legacy worth building together.
With gratitude,
Scott Michaud, grandparent of two campers
David Rubin, grandparent of three campers
